This recipe came from my stocking gift exchange. It was a hit with my friends at church.
1 lb bacon, cut into pieces
1 lb breakfast sausage
1 large onion, diced
4 cloves of garlic
2 lbs potatoes, diced
1/2 lb carrot, diced
1 large parsnip, diced
8 cups chicken broth
2 lbs canned sauerkraut, drained
2 teaspoons marjoram
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon cumin
dash of cayenne pepper
salt and pepper to taste
Brown sausage in a saucepan. At the same time, cook bacon until almost crisp.
Add the onion and garlic to the bacon and cook until the onion starts to become translucent.
Stir in the breakfast sausage, potatoes, carrots, parsnips and chicken broth.
Add the marjoram, paprika, oregano, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper and simmer until vegetables are soft.
Serve.
