Hopeful Again

We got plenty of snow here and the deep cold kept my housemate and I inside. Well, I stayed in, but Terrye diligently took her dog, Lady, out several times a day to toilet.I admit that this is one time of the year that I do not miss doing animal chores.

Because of the cold and snow, there were three house fires nearby and these families came to the clothing ministry for clothes, sheets, towels, and even a few toys. Because Terrye and I live in the same house as the clothing ministry, we were already there to serve, and we were grateful to be able to do so. We kept the water dripping and cabinets open during the deep cold but there was little we could do about the drain to the washing machine. We had a small flood to clean up, but two days later, we were back in business, getting the laundry caught up.

I am excited to announce that some of my videos on Grandma’s Homestead channel will now have some of my sister’s recipes from her cookbook, The Sugar Fix. She is a master with sugar, gum paste and chocolate decorating. There is no way I can do any of that, but I plan to do some of the other recipes she has in her book. I’m looking forward to producing those videos and, hopefully sell some books for her. Here is a link to her cook book: https://amzn.to/4qqEGmG . I’m really proud of the work she does and look forward to showing you some of the dishes in her cook book. While you are cooking some of the recipes, feel free to admire the beautiful sugar, gum-paste and chocolate designs she has done for her beautiful cakes. This is not a great picture of her cookbook, but at least you can get a glimpse of one of her cakes and know if you found the right book.

I did get a video posted during all this snow from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Country Cookbook. Almanzo’s Favorite Swiss Steak was a good meal to cook on a cold day and we enjoyed it. That video can be seen here:

On a completely different note, my granddaughter who has been off to college this year, told me she wanted to move back home. I am praying very hard that I can provide a home for her to move to. She wants to continue her education, but has had enough of college life and wants to go online from here on out. My heart is warmed that she wants to come home. I have been battling hopelessness in my situation and her words have given me hope again. Now, let’s see if I can get it done.

I pray that you fared nicely during that cold and snow. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the arrival of spring. God bless!
